Ingredients:
4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Pink Lady are ideal)
½ cup water (or apple juice for extra sweetness)
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
Pinch of sea salt
Squeeze of lemon juice
Method:
Peel and chop apples: Peel, core, and roughly dice the apples into small chunks.
Cook gently: In a medium saucepan, add the apples, water (or juice), butter, sugar, and salt.Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low. Cover and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft.
Mash or blend: For a rustic texture, mash with a fork or potato masher. For a smooth sauce, blend until creamy.
Add flavour: Stir in cinnamon (if using) and a small squeeze of lemon juice to balance the sweetness.
Cool and serve: Serve warm or chilled alongside your roast pork, pork belly, or BBQ ribs.
